What made you study Occupational Therapy?

In 2009, on my gap year, I did some work experience with an OT doing community paediatrics in remote Thailand.  The way she was able to support active participation from these children with complex needs was so inspiring. My most recent role prior to joining the Better Days team was as a school-based Occupational Therapist, where I did everything from wheelchair prescription to sensory activity schedules to developing play and leisure skills for mental wellbeing.

What is your favourite part about working with clients?

I get my biggest satisfaction from supporting people of all abilities do the activities they want and need to do, by promoting active participation, and helping them find ways to overcome barriers in their daily lives.

Can you think of a time recently that made you feel really proud to be working with Better Days?

Having the opportunity to review OT initial and plan review reports for the Better Rehab team in NSW has been incredible.  I’m loving being able to bounce ideas off fellow therapists, and extend each other’s clinical reasoning – it’s so rewarding.

What is something unique or interesting about you?

I’m an Aussie from South-East Queensland (Wakka Wakka country) – we moved to New Zealand/Aotearoa 5 years ago for its amazing outdoor life (no spiders, snakes or crocs!) and for me to learn from Occupational Therapy New Zealand’s authentic commitment to bicultural practice. On the weekends, I like long-distance running and playing Ultimate Frisbee!
